The best way to develop your keyword list is to have a brainstorm session and start writing down everything that comes to your mind until you have a sufficient amount of keywords to work with. Now after your done with your list it is time to remove any words that may not describe your services or product to its fullest, simply put, the ones that are not searched for very often. How do I find out what keywords are being searched for? Do your keyword research. This will give you a general idea of the terms you’re considering. Google also provides a keyword suggestion tool at Google adwords: keyword tool to help you choose keyword variations. Just type in your general keyword, click enter, and it will come up with a large keyword list. They have an extensive keyword database into which you enter search terms to see how often people search for those terms and how many competing sites are using the keyword. They have a free trial for which you have to register. After you put in your name and email address a friendly screen comes up that will allow you to start the trial which includes a link to WordTracker’s privacy policy. Click on the link and a screen will come up in which you enter a general keyword. WordTracker will than display 30 keywords related to your keyword, and also tell you how many keywords you would have seen with the full version of WordTracker. Once you have your keyword list narrow it down to where you want it, with just the keywords that you are definitely going to use. You should take the time to enter each of them into the most popular search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN, to see what sites they turn up. What you want to do, is see what the return is, do they have services or provide products similar to your own? Or do they produce the results entirely different from what you have expected? If they turn up sites that vary to a great extent from your own, when people want to find your site, they most likely won’t use those terms.
