Soul Searching

There was once a Christian man soul searching his heart as he was going for a walk on a nature trail that went through the countryside. He was trying to figure out why so many things turned out badly to the things he wanted to accomplish in his life that were of great importance to him.

As he was walking he came upon a strange house that was vacant showing no signs of anyone living there for years, and this caused his curiosity to grow. As he got right up to the door of the house he had this irresistible urge to go in. The force was so strong he could not refuse, he just had to go in.

When he walked through the doorway he got about five feet into this large and strange room, it was a room like he had never seen in his entire life. He felt a chill down his back and a great fear come upon him and he started to tremble like never before.

As he was standing there in dead salience the door started to close behind him and a darkness fell upon him as if being in a deep sleep but yet at the same time he felt like his eyes were wide open. It was an experience that he had never encountered before. But he continued to stand there waiting to see what would happen next.

Then out of nowhere he heard a voice, and the voice said to him, “It is time to do some soul searching and take the time to think about your life, and all the things that happened throughout your life, good and bad and don’t leave anything out.”

So he did what the voice told him to do. He went back in his mind as far back as he could remember and he started to think of all the things that happen to him throughout his life. As he was thinking of all the bad things that happened to him, he noticed that there was very little light and it caused him to stumble to the point of a lot of pain and misery.

When he was trying to accomplish something of great importance that held value, he noticed the light would get dim and it continued to get darker. There were times it got so dark, to the point that he could not even see his hand in front of his face. As a result he had to walk away in abandonment instead of accomplishment.

Then as he started to think about the good things that happened throughout his life, he noticed that they were not of great importance, but the light was bright and continued to grow brilliant, and he took notice of how happy he was. As a result this caused him to have a lack of understanding.

He said to the voice “Why is it all the things that I tried to accomplish throughout my life that were of great importance to me ended up in failure, and all the things that were not of great importance made me happy and joyful?”

Then the voice said to him. “I am your Lord Jesus to whom you prayed to for guidance and understanding. I heard your prayers and gave you guidance in every direction for your foot to walk. But as for the understanding, you yourself decided to lean upon your own understanding.

All the things that you thought were of great importance to you, I had no choice but to lead you into darkness to stop you from going down the wrong path that would have led to the destruction of your life. Did you not pray to Me for guidance?

As for the things you thought were of no importance to you, did you not find them to be joyful? Did they not bring you happiness throughout your life? Are you not standing here before Me in good health? Even now, am I not here before you to set you straight so that you can continue on with your live that leads to everlasting life?”
